Keystone Optical SPDIF Insert | HTECH
The Keystone Optical SPDIF Insert (also known as a Toslink keystone jack) is a modular component designed to fit into standard keystone wall plates, surface mount boxes, or patch panels. It provides a clean, professional-looking connection point for fiber optic digital audio cables.
Mechanical design
These inserts are usually constructed from high-impact, flame-retardant plastic. Because they use fiber optics, there is no actual electrical contact within the insert; it serves as a mechanical alignment sleeve that ensures the two polished ends of the fiber optic cables meet precisely to allow light to pass through with minimal signal loss.

Steps for getting the right amount of inserts for your project:
- Determine the empty slots of the wall plate. For example, you want two 6-slot 120×120 wall plates. The total number of empty slots is 12.
- Determine the actual number of inserts you need. Subtract the total empty slots from the amount of inserts you actually need. The value gotten will be for the blank inserts [click here]. For example, you require four RJ45 inserts, 12 – 4 = 8. That means you will buy 8 blank inserts for the slots you will not be using.
