A YPbPr Audio to HDMI Converter is an active hardware adapter that bridges the gap between legacy analog AV equipment and modern digital displays. It takes an analog component video (YPbPr) signal and its accompanying audio channels, digitizes them, and multiplexes them into a single, unified digital HDMI stream. This allows legacy hardware like the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2, original Xbox, or older DVD/Blu-ray players to connect directly to modern flat-screen TVs, monitors, or capture cards that lack analog inputs.

How does the converter work?

Component video was the highest quality analog video standard that consumer electronics used before HDMI. It splits the video data into three separate lines to minimize interference:

• Y (Green connector): Luma (brightness) and sync pulses.
• Pb (Blue connector): Blue minus luma color difference.
• Pr (Red connector): Red minus luma color difference.
