BMTD Ni80 Coil | 22GA/0.4 ohm
The BMTD Ni80 coil is a line of high-performance, pre-built heating elements favored by builders using rebuildable drip atomizers (RDAs) and rebuildable tank atomizers (RTAs).
Note that there are 100 pieces of the Ni80 coil.
Nichrome 80 (Ni80) is an alloy composed of:
- 80% Nickel
- 20% Chromium
Why consider Ni80?
- Material characteristics:
- Rapid ramp-up: the Ni80 has a lower electrical resistance than Kanthal A1. This allows the coil to heat up significantly faster, providing nearly instant vapor production when the fire button is pressed.
- Flavor purity: many enthusiasts prefer Ni80 because it is “cleaner” than Kanthal, often providing a crisper flavor profile without the metallic “break-in” taste sometimes associated with other alloys.
- Durability: It is highly resistant to oxidation at high temperatures, meaning these coils tend to last through multiple “dry burns” and re-wicking sessions.
- Technical characteristics:
- Resistance stability: the Ni80 is a non-temperature-control (non-TC) wire. It should be used in power mode or bypass mode. Its resistance does not fluctuate significantly when heated, making it very stable.
- Coil leg length: When installing BMTD coils, remember that the length of the “legs” (the parts going into the posts) will slightly affect the final Ohm reading on your mod.
- Wattage range: depending on the specific build these typically perform best between 40W and 80W for dual-coil setups, or 25W to 50W for single-coil setups.
Maintenance and installation
- Pulse and glow: after installing, pulse the mod at low wattage (15W–20W) to check for “hot spots.” Use ceramic tweezers to pinch or lightly “comb” the wraps until they glow evenly from the inside out.
- Cleaning: when the flavor begins to mute, remove the cotton, dry burn the coil at a low power until it glows dull orange, and then rinse it under a light stream of water (while NOT firing) to remove carbon buildup.
